Common Causes of No-Start We Can Fix at Our Lansing Auto ShopWhen you first notice that your vehicle isn't firing up as easily as usual, you'll want to get to the shop for an inspection. If you ignore the symptom, it could soon get worse and potentially leave you unable to start your car at all. Common Problems that Prevent Cars from Starting

In many cases, battery/charging system issues are to blame for no-start. Car batteries die due to issues like: old age, loose/corroded connections, parasitic draws, and leaving headlights on. Alternator failure can also lead to a dead battery. Signs of a bad alternator include malfunctioning headlights, issues with interior electrical accessories, and an illuminated warning light that comes on in the shape of a little battery. In some cars, this warning light instead reads ALT or GEN.

A problem with the starter is another common cause of no-start. One sign of starter trouble is that you turn the key and your car won't start but you do hear a clicking sound. A starter issue can also cause a grinding noise.

Insufficient fuel supply is also a common reason that cars don't start. If you have a fuel pump issue, then gas may be incapable of traveling from your tank to your engine. Indications of a bad fuel pump include sputtering, power loss, and a drop in MPGs. Also, a clogged fuel filter could prevent your engine from taking in enough fuel to get fired up. Fuel filters should be replaced at about 25,000 miles. And if you have dirty fuel injectors, then your engine might struggle to start. You can try using a fuel additive to get rid of contaminants from injectors and intake valves.
